BAIA Foundation

Faron Manuel is Director of BAIA Foundation. Manuel will lead the grants division and oversee exhibitions and programming for Black Art In America and BAIA Foundation.

Manuel joined the BAIA Foundation from the High Museum of Art, where he oversaw two Mellon Foundation-funded curatorial fellowship grants. Manuel joined the museum in 2016 as coordinator of the Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship, and the Mellon Graduate Fellowship in Object-Centered Curatorial Research programs: developing curriculum; managing grant reporting and accounting; and managing grant funded projects.

BLACK ART IN AMERICA™ (BAIA) FOUNDATION is a 501c3 dedicated to championing the African American visual art community through access, art education, and community empowerment.

OUR WHY

A significant challenge for communities of color is a lack of access to and education on the visual arts, particularly those that effectively reflect and represent themselves. BAIA Foundation works to affect change through relevant programming, educational outreach, and viable community fellowships and partnerships.

  • Community art and gardening programming for children and seniors
  • BAIA AIR (Artist-in-Residence) programming
  • Art-centered lesson plans for middle schools, summer camps, and homeschoolers 
  • Artist-led community workshops and programs for youth and seniors 
  • Artist advocacy through the writing and placement of articles 
  • Archiving and exhibiting images and documents from African American history 
  • Professional development series for artists and arts professionals
  • Institutional marketing assistance for African American museums and cultural centers
