Karen B. Stewart
was born into a Navy family in Kingsville, TX, and had her first of 15 moves at 6 weeks of age.  Perhaps this is what sparked her love of travel and wide ranging interests.  After graduating from Texas A&M, she taught tennis in Ohio, Texas, and Mexico, where she met her husband.  While living in Montgomery, AL, Karen began dabbling in an old high school love...art.  Another move took her to Charleston, SC, where Karen expanded her interests into a very successful faux finishing/decorative painting business and taught finishes on a national level for the Stencil Artisans League, Inc.

After her move to Columbus, GA, Karen Stewart made the leap from walls to paper and canvas. Starting in pastels and expanding to oils, acrylics, and watercolor; Karen's work immediately met with success and her first solo show sold out.  The maturity of Karen's work belies her lack of formal training and she has achieved a level of excellence in her paintings that most artists do not achieve in a lifetime.

Completely uncontrived, Karen's work honestly portrays her life and travels and she has a creative vision which produces unusual compositions.  Her selection of subject matter is innovative and she is masterful in a multitude of mediums. She pushes color to its most beautiful limit, in combinations that are always fresh and surprising.

Karen has received numerous awards in national and international shows and plein air paint outs and is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the Women Painters of the Southeast, and a member of excellence of the Southeastern Pastel Society.  Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States as well as in Mexico and Japan and has appeared in American Art Collector, American Artist Workshop, and EichimailNoE.

"I love color; moving it around a painting, using it to set the tone and mood; for me color is where I get to play." -------Karen Stewart
