Burl Washington is water-colorist who enjoys painting history and nostalgia Americana. Born in Somerville, Texas, a small town outside of Bryan/College Station A&M University, he now lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife Linda. They have two daughters Melinda and Melissa who have been used as models for many of his paintings. He is the seventh of ten children of John and Ruby Washington.
Educated at Snook/Jones High School, receiving his AA degree from Texas State Technical College in Waco,Texas and his BA at University of Texas at Arlington majoring in Commercial Art and Advertising. Burl's early art influences were from his parents, aunts and teachers, his love of Norman Rockwell art of the Saturday Evening Post magazine and William Tanner. His detail and authenticity in his work captures emotion and excitement.
Burl has been the subject of many feature magazine/newspaper articles in Southwest Art, Western Art Collectors, Wild West, Inform Art, Saddle Baron, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Morning News, Associated Press, many other publications and TV appearances.
Burl has been a participant and solo exhibits across the country from West Point Military Academy in New York, Booth Western Art Museum of Cartersville, Georgia, National Buffalo Soldiers Museum, Houston, Texas, International Museum of the Horse, Lexington, Kentucky and many others. He has been awarded many Best of Show, 1st Place awards from many national and regional art competitions; his work hangs in many prestigious galleries, museums and private collections.
